Blender Tutorials
Very Basics of Modeling
- user interface tutorial - know your user interface, short intruduction to the UI.
- In depth blender interface tutorials - more interface tutorials
- snowman - modeling a simple snow man: creating primitives, simple modifications, assigning material and render scene.
- videotutorials - some basic video tutorials
- hillside - creating a hillside (terrain): using planes, materials and textures.
- building a castle - little advanced modeling, still using primitives.
- texturing castle - assigning materials and textures to the castle.
- Model a toon car: here - Beginner tutorial, introduction to all basic functions like selecting, scaling, extrude, smooth, etc.
- 25 blender tricks - video tutorial with some tricks
- ride through the mines - A curves and making animation
Advanced Modeling
Logos
- creating a logo - Rotoscoping (tracing a background image), Working with curves
Persons
- Model a face: here - Advanced but not too complicated
- Head modeling: here - Very advanced tutorial, uses subsurfaces
- Very advanced character animation - Winner of the international blender contest, gives some tutorials about char anim.
- subsurface modeling - some simple aliens to model
Buildings
- high tech corridor - modeling a high tech corridor, using extrusion, duplication of objects, lens flares, bumpmapping
- organic looking cave - modeling an organic looking cave with the skinning tools, surface tools, cross sections
- cage technique - The described technique works by selecting and hiding faces in an object and then extruding
Vehicles
- Model a Toyota Calica - Loading bitmaps in the 3D viewports, tracing them, mesh extrusion, normal correction and using subdivision surfaces
- Another car modeling tutorial - He talks about issues such as composition, textures, colors and lighting and while (or maybe because) he does not go into many technical details this is a very interesting read.
Environment
- Cloud creation - a tutorial on faking really nice looking volumetric clouds. It covers working with textures on particle systems, lighting them well and then cheating a bit.
- very nice terrain! - complex outdoor landscapes within Blender, without messing with specific tools like Bryce or Terragen. We'll work on the basis of Height Maps, exactly as do these two softwares.
Very Advanced Modeling
- creating normal maps - It explains how to accurately map the features of a high-resolution model on a lower resolution model by using normal maps, a feature that has been added in Blender 2.36. The result is pretty cool but be warned: there’s quite a bit of work involved.
